    • \"pieIf you haven't had an Embury apple pies, then you haven't lived. \u00a0All kidding aside, the apple pies we make and sell have been helping the ministries near and far for over 50 years.<\/p>\r\n

      \r\n

      With your help, we made pies 4 times in 2013, in September, October, November, and\u00a0December\u2026. \u00a0A total of more than 1000 pies!!<\/p>\r\n

      That means\u2026.<\/p>\r\n

        \r\n
      • More than 50 boxes of apples peeled,cored, sliced;<\/li>\r\n
      • More than 200 bags of dough for crusts,<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n

        made from:<\/p>\r\n

          \r\n
        • More than (gasp!) 300 lbs of Crisco;<\/li>\r\n
        • More than 300 lbs of sugar;<\/li>\r\n
        • More than 500 lbs of flour!<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n

          AND\u2026most importantly, a countless amount\u00a0of labor (estimate: 1000 hours per pie make\u00a0season!) donated by our most important\u00a0ingredient, YOU!!<\/p>\r\n

          Thanks to your efforts, we made\u00a0close to $10,000, which will be used\u00a0to help a variety of needs and causes. \u00a0In past years, our earnings have been\u00a0distributed to programs within and\u00a0outside of our church, including the\u00a0following:<\/p>\r\n

            \r\n
          • the youth group\u2019s mission trip;<\/li>\r\n
          • the United Methodist Homes;<\/li>\r\n
          • A Future with Hope (NJ campaign<\/li>\r\n
          • helping those with losses from\u00a0Sandy);<\/li>\r\n
          • Needs within our church, including\u00a0the restoration of our organ;<\/li>\r\n
          • United Methodist Commission on\u00a0Relief programs in Africa;<\/li>\r\n
          • 180 Turning Lives Around<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n

          • Celebrate your birthday with a gift to help others! \u00a0
            HABcore<\/b> and 180 Turning Lives Around<\/b> receive donations from the Birthday Box. \u00a0 Your donation can be placed in the Birthday Box in the narthex or in the collection plate.\u00a0Make checks payable to Embury UMC with the notation \"Birthday Box\".\u00a0 If you already celebrated your birthday and forgot to donate, it's never too late!<\/p>\r\n

          • Altar flowers are a great way to celebrate and honor a special person of an event. \u00a0It provides us opportunities to thank God for that special someone and\/or events. The sign-up sheet is in the back of the sanctuary.Contact: Beverly English<\/p><\/article><\/li>

          • Food gift card is a good way to help our ministries. \u00a0All you have to do is buy a gift card for the supermarket you usually shop and the church receives a rebate.<\/p>\r\n

          • For many children in Monmouth County, summer not only means the end of the school year but also means missing a daily school meal. The St. Luke's Food Pantry in Long Branch serves about 1200 families each month. Donations of baby food, toilet paper and detergent are always appreciated, as well as peanut butter and jelly during the summer months. Also, please recycle your plastic grocery bags with them. A donations box is located near the church entry.
